Thomas began playing soccer at the age of 6 with the Royals organization. He then played with Port City Soccer before going to play with the Hinesville Gators. He was on the All Region State Select team in 1993. He lettered in high school his freshman year and played all four years at Benedictine Military School, making the Region Team three times. He then went on to play one year at South Georgia College in Douglas, Georgia. At the time of Thomas’ death, The Thomas O’Hayer, III Soccer Program Fund was established at Benedictine which has been used by the BC Soccer team.
